OFD is entering a busy period as several human factor evaluation trials are underway involving all of the OFD partners.

This week saw the start of the trials taking place at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research involving GE and the Transportation Research Group at the University of Southampton. These trials aim to expand the current understanding of the use of touchscreens in turbulent environments, identifying the usability of gestures in different flight deck display positions and the usability serving certain flight deck functions. This information will help inform guidelines to aid future development of touchscreen user applications for the flight deck, including the OFD A661 flight planning and 3D map user applications currently under development.
